I’ll say it right now: I feel cheated. Cheated, because my trip to Vienna should be considered a mere pitstop. I mean, how is one content to spending just 24 hours in a city like this?? I blame bad advice; from now on the phrase “there’s nothing much to see” shall be taken with a pinch of salt.
Now that that’s off my chest…I think our little group deserves a medal. A recognition of our stamina and sheer determination that somehow allowed us to see what, 90% of Vienna’s attractions in a day (with a long nap in between)? I know you must be a little impressed.

From the University of Wein ending at Schonburn Palace, we covered the Ringstrasse, Parliament, the Hofburg and the shopping district.

Vienna is such a change from Budapest. The atmosphere in the city one of affluence and luxury. Buildings are grander, more well-maintained. And of course, it is the city of music! Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to catch a show at the Vienna Opera House, or even get to visit it (another sore point for me…). Needless to say, we were thoroughly impressed.

Despite its grandeur, I don’t feel like I really know Vienna. One short day is not enough for me to explore and learn its quirks, its secrets and history.

However, this means that I have an excuse to return. It is always good to take the time to turn acquaintances into close friends.
